6th Annual Minnesota 6 hour Rogaine - Long Distance Orienteering Event

The Minnesota Orienteering Club invites you to a 6-hour long distance orienteering/rogaine (Rugged Outdoor Group Activity Involving Navigation and Endurance) event on Saturday, August 16th at Jay Cooke State Park, near Duluth, MN. Hikers, runners, orienteers, adventure racers, trail runners, ultra runners, families - everyone is welcome. Come test your endurance and navigation skills. Go at your own speed and choose your own route. Teams will be given a detailed map and have 6 hours to find as many of the marked control points as possible.

WHERE: River Inn Visitor Center (Swinging Bridge), Jay Cooke State Park, Hwy 210, Carlton, MN approximately 15 miles SW of Duluth. Event will be held in 8800 acres of rugged hardwood forest in the State Park. Start location on Google Maps.

WHEN: Saturday, August 16th. Mandatory meeting and maps handed out at 9:30 am. Mass start for all classes and teams at 10:00 am. Finish by 4:00 pm (penalty points for every minute after 4 pm). Course closed at 4:30 pm. Awards and cook-out/potluck at 4:45 pm.

WHAT: Teams of 2 or more persons looking for approximately 35 controls marked on a 1:24,000 modified USGS map. There is no set course; controls may be visited in any order.

WHO: Teams of 2 or more persons. Individuals may enter and will be teamed up on the day with other individuals of similar goals/abilities. Awards for the highest scoring teams in 5 categories: Male, Female, Coed, Masters (average age 40+) and GPS-assisted.

COST: Registration by August 10th: $20 per person, $18 for MNOC members, and $16 for under 21. Please register online for this event. A $5 late fee per person applies after 8/10.

MISCELLANEOUS:

  • Food station will be provided at the start/ finish during the event.
  • Post race cook out will start at 4:45 pm. Hamburgers, hotdogs, lemonade and iced tea will be provided. Potluck dish requested from participants.
  • Camping at Jay Cooke State Park has been reserved for race participants for Friday and Saturday night. Camping will be $14/tent for each night. Tent sites will be first come first served. Email to maps@mnoc.org if you want a site.
